Heather McCartney

Heather is an experienced Analytical Psychotherapist registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).

​

A Senior Clinician of the West Midlands Institute of Psychotherapy, Birmingham, Heather has held various positions of responsibility within the Institute, including  Chair of the  WMiP Qualifying Training in Analytical Psychotherapy  from 2010-2013 and 2016-2017 and  Chair of the Board of Trustees from 2014-2015. She was Editor of the WMiP Journal for a period of three years.

A highly experienced practitioner, Heather is also an approved psychotherapist and supervisor for psychotherapists/counsellors in training. Her experience of therapeutic work is extensive, encompassing private practice, the boarding school sector, colleges and corporate organisations. Familiar with  a very broad range of clients from all walks of life, she also has long experience of working with senior business leaders, those in academia or the church, and others facing the challenges and responsibilities  of leadership.

She has worked as a  psychoanalytical psychotherapist since 2000 and also offers ISTDP (Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy), a very accessible  method of effecting change.
